Abstract

The objective of this chapter is to introduce the muscles. There are three types of muscles following as skeletal muscle, smooth muscle, and cardiac muscle. Skeletal muscle fibers are parallel to each other. There is no cell boundary. A sheet of cytoplasm contains multiple nuclei. Nuclei are flattened and peripherally situated. Prominent cross striations are present. Smooth muscle fiber is spindle-shaped. The center has a bulge and the periphery is elongated. Cardiac muscle forms the myocardium of the heart. It is unique by having the branching and anastomosing pattern of muscle fibers.
