Abstract

The largest part of brain is cerebrum or telencephalon. It has two halves as cerebral hemispheres. The wide gap between them in the sagittal plane is the median fissure in which the sickle-shaped fold of dura mater is present. The right and left cerebral hemispheres are separated by falx cerebri but connected by corpus callosum which is a part of white matter of cerebrum. The cerebrum and cerebellum are separated by a horizontal fold of dura mater called as tentorium cerebelli. There are three important sulci and the imaginary lines drawn from them divide the cerebral hemisphere into four lobes. Central sulcus from superior border downwards and an imaginary line is drawn extending it up to posterior ramus of lateral sulcus. Posterior ramus of lateral sulcus runs horizontally backwards and then turns upwards. Parieto-occipital sulcus runs obliquely downwards for a short distance. An imaginary line is extended from horizontal part posteriorly.
