Abstract

This chapter discusses about the high risk cases in obstetric and the new born care. High-risk obstetric cases include conditions linked to high-risk pregnancy such as family history, certain medical conditions, rhesus (rh) incompatibility, multiple pregnancies etc. The assessment of these high-risk obstetric cases is carefully done and the doctors and nursing staff are qualified and ably trained in managing all these cases. Also, the newborn should be given immediate care looking at the indications for the transfer in case of respiratory distress, low birth weight, recurrent apnea, seizures, perinatal asphyxia, jaundice and others. The hospital staff in the maternity, labor room and NICU are trained and educated about the policy and procedures for preventing infant and child abduction.
