Abstract

This chapter discusses about the restraint that are employed to ensure patient and provider safety, and to facilitate the thorough examination and care of any individual exhibiting an altered level of consciousness. Physical restraints and chemical restraints are being carried out along with the consent form. The common types of physical restraints are made up of linen and canvas while the chemical restraints are drugs, which serve the same purpose as physical restraints. There are some responsibilities of the medical and nursing staff which needs to follow at every stage. The medical staff must conduct a clinical assessment for the use of chemical restraint, wherein a nurse shall try to get assistance from other hospital personnel, while restraining a patient.
