Abstract

This chapter seeks to familiarize the readers with the quality improvement (QI) in hospitals and healthcare organizations (HCOs). Quality is delivering the most advanced medical knowledge, practices to help/save the patient and treating patient with empathy, respect and concern. QI is a formal approach to the analysis of performance and systematic efforts to improve it. Continuous quality improvement (CQI), focus, analyze, develop, execute and evaluate (FADE), plan, do, study, act (PDSA), six sigma (define, measure, analyze, improve, control), and total quality management (TQM) are the tools used for QI in hospitals and HCOs which are discussed briefly in this chapter. Role of E-governance in providing high-quality services, current E-health scenario in India, key components of high-quality health care, and steps for quality improvement are also covered in this chapter.
