Abstract

This chapter will go on to state the requirements for submission of research project; it then briefly gives the ethical principles/standards involved in this process. Any research using the human beings as subjects of medical or scientific research or experimentation, bear in mind some principles which are discussed briefly in this chapter. Members in ethics committee (EC) may vary from one hospital to another. The basic responsibility of an EC is to ensure a competent review of all ethical aspects of the project proposals received and execute the same free from any bias, and influence that could affect their objectivity. Process of proposal submission, decision-making process, investigator’s responsibility, informed consent process, selection of special groups as research subjects, patient information leaflet, objectives of ethical committee, communicating a decision, notification/reporting, etc. are other important aspects of research activities which are also discussed briefly in this chapter.
