Abstract

Uterine septum is the commonest mullerian developmental anomaly where the uterine cavity is divided vertically by a myometrial segment. It is the mullerian malformation with the highest incidence of reproductive complications and poor reproductive outcomes like increased risk of spontaneous abortion and preterm delivery. This chapter covers the embryological development of uterus, incidence, classification, diagnosis, treatment, and postoperative treatment. The postoperative administration of estrogen hormonal therapy has been used to stimulate the endometrial growth, and to reduce the formation of intrauterine adhesions. In initial days of hysteroscopic septum resection, it was a common practice to insert an intrauterine device (IUD) after the resection.
