Abstract

Introduction of noncytological screening tests like visual inspection with 3–5% acetic acid, human papillomavirus deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test has made the role of colposcopy more important in cervical cancer screening. Colposcopy plays a central role in the management of patients with abnormal screening tests. To improve the examination findings, various colposcopic indexes like Reid index, Swede Score have been introduced to interpret colposcopic findings followed by with/without biopsy as the gold standard. The Reid’s colposcopy index (RCI), most well-known scoring system, was first reported by Reid and Scalzi in 1985. In 2011, the International Federation for Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy (IFCPC) presented the new international colposcopic terminology or classification system at the 14th World Congress in Rio de Janeiro.
