Abstract

This chapter describes the basics of colposcopy in detection of precancerous lesions. The history of colposcopy began in March 1924. Colposcopy allows the service provider to have a magnified view of the cervix and its vasculature. The steps to be followed in colposcopy examination are cleaning with normal saline, blue green filter, application of 5% acetic acid, and Lugol’s application. Colposcopy is an art and science to identify the lesion for the purpose of biopsy. Once the lesion is identified, it has to be represented by Cartier diagram. Preventive oncology is a team work of Clinician, Colposcopist, and Cytopathologist.
