Abstract

Ultrasound is the modality of choice for assessment of female pelvic pathologies. This chiefly includes the pathologies of uterus, ovaries and extraovarian adnexal tissue. Though, endometriosis may also be considered as a part of pelvic pathologies. Depending on the time of arrest of unification of the two mesonephric ducts, the congenital uterine abnormalities are agenesis of the uterus, unicornuate uterus, uterus didelphys, bicornuate uterus, septate uterus, and arcuate uterus. Others uterine abnormalities are hypoplastic uterus, T-shaped (DES exposed uterus), etc. Volume ultrasound (US), three-dimensional (3D) and four-dimensional (4D) US has a major role to play in the diagnosis of uterine anomalies. It can be called a virtual hysteroscopy. Sensitivity of the volume USG for the detection of congenital uterine abnormalities is more than 98%.
