Ultrasound is the modality of choice for monitoring of patients on the assisted-reproductive technology (ART). Route of scan has to be transvaginal always. All scans are done using B-mode, color Doppler, pulse Doppler, 3D ultrasound and 3D power Doppler. Ultrasound monitoring can be divided into scans done during three phases of the menstrual cycle following as baseline scan, Pre-hCG scan, and luteal phase scan. Baseline scan is done on 2nd or 3rd day of the cycle. It is known as a baseline scan, because, at this time of the cycle, the ovaries have no active follicles, or residual active corpus luteum, and endometrium is thin like a single line. Estrogen and progesterone are at their baseline level. Corpus luteum is a cystic structure with thick shaggy walls and echogenicity in the lumen. But it is known to have variable appearances like ground glass echogenicity in lumen or lace like echogenicities.
