Abstract

The objective of this chapter is to introduce the allergy. This chapter is divided into six parts, which include allergic rhinitis, asthma, anaphylaxis, food allergy, insect sting allergy, and urticaria and angioedema. The prevalence of allergy rhinitis is around 30% globally and three out of four children with asthma have allergic rhinitis. It is not a trivial disease it has range of symptoms, such as cough, sneezing, nasal itching, congestion, sore throat, halitosis, respiratory distress in infants, and hypernasality to tone of voice and behavioral problems. Asthma is an early onset noncommunicable chronic environmental respiratory disease characterized by airway obstruction, airway inflammation, airway hyper-reactivity, and airway remodeling in uncontrolled cases, it is an epidemic globally, now 1 billion population suffering and it will reach 4 billion by 2050.
