Abstract

Antenatal care of the mother is a key component of a healthy pregnancy. Effective antenatal care translates into having a healthy mother and a healthy baby. Good antenatal care engenders a healthy behavior, and a healthy life style. World Health Organization (WHO) defines ‘health as a state of physical, mental and social well-being of an individual and not merely the absence of disease’. Many more dimension, which have been cited such as spiritual, emotional and vocational dimensions. Health is a dynamic process of harmony in the flow of spiritual, mental and physical energy. The current conventional approach addresses only one dimension, i.e. physical body. This chapter covers the scientific evidence of wise life in utero, mental health, causes of stress during pregnancy, harmful effects of stress on pregnant mother, social health, spiritual health, and meditation.
