Abstract

Teenage pregnancy is a global issue. Interestingly, teenage pregnancy is one of the few issues that connect the east with the west, albeit in shades of negativity. Even developed nations such as the United States are facing the same big problem of teenage pregnancy. But, there is a sharp difference in terms of the reason, why teenagers get pregnant in more modernized societies such as the United States and in developing nations such as India. This chapter covers the factors influencing adolescent pregnancy and childbirth, complications, care of the adolescents during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period, and prevention. The most important role of physicians is to be proactive and ask all teenaged patients about sexual activity, sexual health issues and also inquire about the contraceptive used.
