The objective of this chapter is to describe the strategies to reduce MMR. This chapter covers the well-known facts, maternal health services, sustainable developmental goal, first delay, second delay, third delay, causes of maternal mortality in India, causes of maternal mortality worldwide, road blocks, strategies to reduce MMR, myth, and lessons and future directions. Over the decades, despite government continuous efforts, the fall in MMR has been slow. Much needs to be done for maternal health care in rural areas. Many studies show first and second delays are responsible for maximum preventable and treatable deaths.
