Abstract

This chapter basically talks about the impression making for implant supported prosthesis. Gingival health is much easier to record an impression, if the gingiva is healthy. It is impossible to obtain a clear sharp impression, if there is a sea of blood and/or saliva. It is therefore, imperative to do a thorough subgingival scaling and curettage and wait for several days before taking an impression. Gingival retraction, syringing of impression material and removing impression are different impression technique. Before undertaking any procedure, an accurate diagnostic wax up by the technician with consultation of the clinician goes a long way in treatment planning and success of final prosthesis. The aim of impression making for implant supported prosthesis is to transfer the exact position of the implant in the patient’s mouth to that of the laboratory working cast.
