Abstract

This chapter aims to present crestal sinus floor elevation. In 1994, Summers introduced the crestal approach for sinus grafting by the use of especially designed osteotomes to break the sinus floor by bone compaction at the same time improve the quality of bone by lateral condensation. Even though the lateral window technique has been proven to be a reliable technique for sinus augmentation, this technique results in considerable postoperative pain, swelling, discomfort, and possibility of infection. Summers technique of crestal sinus floor elevation depends on bone compaction to elevate the sinus membrane through the use of osteotomes which has some limitations such as possible sinus membrane perforation from compaction of the bone. Three well-illustrated cases related to the surgical technique of crestal sinus floor elevation have been also provided in this chapter.
