This chapter deals with mechanical and kinesiologcal aspects of prevention of sports injuries. Almost in all physical activities and sports there is some likelihood of injury. Athletes are subjected to injuries during training as well as during competition. Many activities of the gymnasium, different sports and playground have possibilities of injuries. Stress injuries account for maximum percentage of injuries which an athlete encounters. Wrong technique, substandard equipment, mishap or excessive loading are some of the factors responsible for these injuries. A serious injury to a budding sportsman can end his sports career or sometimes it can be life-threatening. The knowledge of mechanical factors which are responsible for dissipation of force is helpful to minimize the occurrence of injuries in sports. Dissipation of force, landing, catching, and summary of mechanical and kinesiological principles related to prevention of injuries are also discussed in this chapter.
