Abstract

The main focus of this chapter is to give detail about elbow and radioulnar joints. The elbow is a uniaxial hinge type of joint that allows only flexion and extension movements. In elbow, the lower end of humerus articulates with the upper ends of both radius and ulna. The movements of flexion and extension take place at elbow joint, occurring about the frontal axis in sagittal plane. The movements of supination and pronation take place at the superior and inferior radioulnar joints. The proximal or superior radioulnar joint is a pivot joint formed between the head of radius and the radial notch of ulna. The distal or inferior radioulnar joint is formed between the ulnar notch of the radius and head of ulna. A detailed discussion on the muscles of elbow and radioulnar joints has been provided in this chapter.
