Abstract

The term transgender refers to those who express and feel comfortable in a gender they are not assigned at birth and how society expects their gender based on their sexual anatomy. The transgender are usually described as male to female (MTF) and female to male (FTM). They can also be described as ‘transgender male’ same as ‘female to male’ and ‘transgender female’ same as ‘male to female’. The society and physician should consider extra care in safeguarding the privacy and emotions of the transgender population. The transgender people are expected to face problem that other people may not even think. Transgender have problems in approaching places in the public, which are gender specific. Standard of care for the health of transsexual, transgender and gender nonconforming people, is a document mainly meant for healthcare professionals, however, they can also be used by individuals, friends, family, institutions working for the health of the transsexuals.
