Abstract

The health benefit is relief of suffering, care, prevention of disease, illness, disability, health, enhancement, and psychological benefit. The notion of “benefit” as a bioethical value among others is the promotion of objective healthcare targets. Avoidance of unjustified harm is a leading moto of medicine (primum non nocere). Medicines are an important cause of harm. In many western countries, adverse reactions account for about 6% of hospital admissions and about another 6% of patients develop reactions in hospital.
