Abstract

Human dignity is the basic concept underlying ethics, philosophy and law. The absence of dignity is in torture, rape, social exclusion, slavery, bonded labor, genital mutilation. Human dignity is the overwhelming ethos of shared and basic normal values. The lack of human dignity is identified in humilities, objectification, degradation, and dehumanization. Factors affecting human dignity are privacy, confidentiality, appropriate communication, patient participation, and choice. The philosophers consider dignity as a metaphysical property possessed by all and only human beings, and which serves as a foundation for moral philosophy and human rights. Human rights are an instrument or set of instruments that contain declarations, laws, conventions and systems of monitoring and enforcement.
