Abstract

Communication is a dynamic process. Through this process we convey a thought or feeling to someone else. As healthcare deals with people, communication skill is an important skill to be possessed by all healthcare professionals. Communication has to be clear and present with no room for misunderstanding. This chapter covers the process of communication, six ways of communication, communication, and types of body language. Communication can be seen as processes of information transmission with three levels of semiotic rules following as pragmatic (concerned with the relations between signs/expressions and their users), semantic (study of relationships between signs and symbols and what they represent), and syntactic (formal properties of signs and symbols).
