Abstract

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a technology has gained importance as a diagnostic and therapeutic modality in current medical practice. The magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) as a therapeutic modality was first cited and patented in 1992. The use of MRgFUS was subsequently launched in Europe in 1994 after receiving European expanded (CE) approval for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) is a thermoablative procedure. It utilizes an external ultrasound energy source to induce thermal ablation is at 65–85°C. This thermal effect is only at the focal point of 2–3 mm and at a given depth through the intact skin. This chapter covers the MRgFUS for fibroids, indications for MRgFUS treatment, MRgFUS treatment in patients with a desire to have children, objectives of treatment and success criteria for MRgFUS treatment, MRgFUS for adenomyosis, and MRgFUS management for adenomyosis.
