Abstract

This chapter deals with the discussion on drug interaction. Amoxicillin is a pharmacokinetic type of drug interaction. The antibacterial action of amoxicillin is due to presence of beta-lactam ring which is broken by beta-lactamase produced by certain microbes. Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole used to treat many bacterial and protozoal infections. Ethyl alcohol is a commonly used beverage. Ciprofloxacin is one of the most commonly used fluoroquinolone bactericidal antibiotic. Theophylline is a methylxanthine used in asthma. Aspirin and warfarin, rifampicin and combined oral contraceptive pill, chloroquine and alkali mixture, sucralfate and antacid, L-dopa and pyridoxine, propranolol and verapamil, digoxin and hydrochlorothiazide, chlorpropamide and dicoumarol, gentamicin and gallamine, lithium and thiazide, propranolol and insulin, and enalapril and spironolactone are also covered in this chapter along with their types, result of interaction, mechanism of interaction, and remarks.
