Abstract

Tissue is a collection of cells embedded in intercellular substances which performs a similar function. There are four basic types of tissues in the human body such as epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscular tissue, and nervous tissue. Epithelial tissue is highly specialized to perform the function of protection, absorption and secretion. The epithelial cells are closely fitted together on a basement membrane to form epithelial membranes. The epithelial tissue is found covering the body surfaces and lining the lumen of the hollow cavities like gut, respiratory system, blood vessels, etc. Epithelial glands have secretory part (acinus) and conducting part (duct). In this chapter, long essay type and short essay type questions are also provided.
