Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to focus on the medical management of male infertility. Infertility is seen to increase in past two decades due to voluntary delayed childbearing, late marriages, increased risk of acquiring sexually transmitted diseases, contraceptive use, and higher intellectual in attaining medical care and assistance for infertility. A conception rate of 20–25% per month is seen in normal fertile couples with more than 90% conception within one year. Male factor is responsible in approximately 50% of infertile couples with 30% cases having male factor as the sole reason for infertility. This chapter provides a comprehensive resource based and evidence-based overview regarding medical management of male infertility. Some of the causes of male infertility can be treated with specific or empirical treatment with success in most instances. Use of gonadotropin replacement therapy is associated with improvement in androgenic features along with seminal parameters.
