The aim of this textbook is to focus on the oral embryology and histology. Knowledge of basic structure and the development of the oral tissues is very essential for the understanding of the disease process, their diagnosis and management. This book explains in detail about the microscopic structure of all the dental hard and soft tissues and their development. It also includes chapters on temporomandibular joint, maxillary sinus, lymphatic system, and salivary glands. Separate section is devoted for related topics like evolution of teeth and jaws, stem cells, histochemistry of oral tissues and preparation of tissues for histological examination. Each topic contains a section called “clinical considerations”, which emphasizes the application of knowledge of histology and embryology in clinical practice. The text has been presented in a simple, lucid, and reader-friendly manner, supported by photomicrographs, drawings, and flowcharts. The contemporary views and the molecular aspects have been highlighted in colored boxes. The clinical implications have been discussed at the end of each chapter. Comparison tables and glossary have been added at the end of the book for easy reference.
