Periprosthetic Joint Infection: Updated Practical Management Guide

by Javad Parvizi, Jonathan R Danoff, James F Fraser, R Andrew Henderson, Christopher P Bechtel, Asim M Makhdom

This updated practical management guide focuses on periprosthetic joint infection. A periprosthetic joint infection occurs when bacteria or other foreign organisms enter a wound during or at any point following joint replacement surgery, sometimes even years after surgery. An infection can cause the joint to be painful or cause the implant to loosen, sometimes resulting in the need for revision surgery. This book comprised of 5 sections, which include basics of infection, preoperative medical optimization, intraoperative and postoperative optimization, diagnosis of infection, and treatment of periprosthetic joint infection, which are further divided into 57 chapters. Each chapter is written based on available evidence, whenever possible. This book is written to provide a practical management guide to the orthopedic community engaged in caring for patients with PJI. The information contained in this book will be of great use to all of us who take care of PJI patients.
