The aim of this FOGSI’s textbook is to focus on the Obstetrics. This textbook has been a labor of love. Training in obstetrics and gynaecology is based on clinical exposure and a strong foundation of knowledge. There are some immutable aspects related to basic sciences in every field, but knowledge is constantly evolving. This book is divided into 2 volumes following as Obstetrics and gynaecology, encompassing every aspect of our everchanging and evolving field. This first volume is on Obstetrics. Author starts with the basics of Obstetrics, where author discuss anatomy, communication, counseling, and good clinical practices. Author then cover normal pregnancy and fetal evaluation, stressing on newer concepts like genetics and genomics, noninvasive prenatal testing, as well as covering the gold standards like antenatal assessment and laboratory evaluation. This book has five separate sections dedicated to complications in early and late pregnancy, pre-existing medical conditions, and their management. This book also has separate sections dedicated to social obstetrics, to enlighten our readers about the steps that are being taken to tackle public health issues like maternal mortality and perinatal deaths. The book is useful for every trainee and practitioner in their endeavor to lay a foundation, and constantly endeavor to evolve to a higher clinical standard of.
