Essentials of Critical Care Medicine for the Physician

by Jamshed Sunavala

This book is aimed to target a specific readership and will be invaluable to consulting physicians in medicine and allied subjects; residents in training for post-graduation in medicine or allied subjects; and young intensivists. This book comprised of 7 sections that focus on history, resuscitation, organ dysfunction, infection, supports, monitoring, and problem oriented topics, which are further divided into 35 chapters. Chapters have been selectively chosen appropriate to the clinical approach of the subject (e.g. shock, supports, organ dysfunction, monitoring etc.), unlike other standard textbooks. Further, in an attempt to avoid repetition and to make the book readable and short, certain important topics such as fluid resuscitation, shock (classification) and coagulation in brief, have been incorporated within the appropriate chapters. Basic principles of resuscitation and emergency procedures are an essential part of critical care training best learnt “hands-on” at the bedside. In every textbook the treatment of cardiac arrest, both Basic and Advanced Life Support, is consistent.
