Abstract

Obstetric ultrasound has both technical and ethical dimensions. Neither should be neglected in clinical practice. The purpose of this paper is to identify the ethical dimensions of obstetric ultrasound and the ways they can be effectively managed in clinical practice: competence and referral, disclosure, confidentiality and ultrasound screening. To address these issues explicitly in the language of contemporary medical ethics, we first introduce the reader to the language and concepts of ethics.
