Abstract

Pulpal and periodontal tissues have close embryonic, anatomic and functional interrelationship. Pathologic changes in one tissue can affect the other. The interrelationship between pulpal and periodontal disease primarily occurs via the intimate anatomic and vascular connection between the pulp and the periodontium. When examining and treating the combined or individual endodontic and periodontal lesions, the clinician must bear in mind that successful treatment depends on a correct diagnosis. Lesion with a combined cause will requires both endodontic and periodontal therapy and endodontic therapy should usually be completed first.
