The book “Practical Orthopedics” elucidates main aspects of practical orthopedics in a simple and comprehensive format. It is very helpful for orthopedicians as well as for those who are private practitioners and orthopedic surgeons posted in rural areas. This book is divided into thirty-four different chapters which mainly focuses on Heart-lung resuscitation, shock and its management, therapies in orthopaedics and their indications, types of suture materials, plaster of paris casts applications and their cutting wedging, etc. Basic Orthopedic techniques such as osteotomy are also covered in this chapter. It also explains about external fixator for long bones and for hand bones, tendon suturing, minor procedures such as anterior transposition of ulnar nerve, fascial spaces of hand, nail fold and sublingual space infection and pulp space infection along with the techniques. Bone and soft tissue injuries, acetabulum and their respective classifications along with primary management are described. The assessment of permanent disabilities in cases of claim settlement by the widely accepted Kesseler’s method is defined. Last part of the book covers the importance of posture, gait and exercises along with the suitable guidelines.
