Abstract

This chapter discusses soft tissue sarcomas. Soft tissue sarcomas account for about 1% of all malignancies and the incidence rates range between 1.8 and 5.0 cases per million populations per year. The extremities are the most common site with about 60% of soft-tissue sarcomas arising in the extremities. The other common sites of involvement are trunk (15–20%), head and neck region (10%), internal organs and the retroperitoneum (15%). The lungs are the most common site for metastasis of soft-tissue sarcomas. The presenting symptoms and signs of soft-tissue sarcomas are nonspecific. Role of radiotherapy, role of chemotherapy, surgical treatment, and management of metastatic disease are discussed in this chapter.
