Abstract

This chapter discusses cancer pain management. Cancer and its related pain is a universal phenomenon affecting rich as well as poor around the globe. Patients with cancer pain can be best managed with a multidisciplinary approach. The goal of cancer pain therapy in patients undergoing active therapy is to provide them with sufficient relief to tolerate the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures required for the treatment. Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage or described in terms of such damage. Clinical assessment of pain, measurement of pain, and pharmacological management of cancer pain are also discussed in this chapter.
