Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to presents the fractures healing. The basic event in fracture healing is very important to plan the treatment. Recent development and research have shown many factors in the process of fundamental healing of fracture. First is the healing of fractures and its relation to axial micromotion. Secondly, distinction also must be made between the healing of diaphyseal fractures and cancellous bone fractures of the intra-articular and metaphyseal area. Thirdly, many biochemical messenger substances are identified which stimulate healing of fractured bones. Fourthly using new methods of internal fixation, external fixation, and rehabilitation, we can now successfully treat even the most severe fractures and many severe joint injuries. Types of bone formation, factors that influence the fracture healing, osteoinduction and osteoconduction, and principles of treatment of fracture are also discussed in brief.
