Abstract

This chapter discusses the magician of kurgan. Gavriil A Ilizarov, MD Ph.D. Dsc, Honored physician of the Russian Republic, Professor of Orthopedics, and Director of the Kurgan Research Institute, now called as “VKNC VTO”. He developed the versatile ring fixator—this discovery constitutes one of the most remarkable advances in the history of musculoskeletal research. Ilizarov had to treat a large number of wounded soldiers of the Second World War.
