Abstract

Despite the thick glabrous skin and the cushion of subcutaneous fat, the flexor tendons are commonly injured following lacerations with sharp objects and falls on uneven hard surfaces. The flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) arises from a radial and ulnar head. The ulnar head is a part of the common flexor origin and the radial head arises from the proximal radius. The flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) arises from the proximal ulna and the interosseous membrane. This chapter aims to cover a brief discussion on functional anatomy, clinical examination, timing of the repair, operative repair, postoperative care and complications of flexor tendon injury.
