Abstract

This chapter describes the osteotomies around the hip. An osteotomy is a surgical corrective procedure used to obtain a correct biomechanical alignment of the extremity so as to achieve equivocal load transmission, performed with or without removal of a portion of the bone. Displacement of the distal fragment, anatomic location of osteotomy cut and according to indications are the classifications of osteotomies of the proximal femur. The main focus of this chapter is on the osteotomies of proximal femur, Lorenz bifurcation osteotomy, Schanz osteotomy (low subtrochanteric), Dunn and Hass osteotomy, slipped femoral epiphysis, McMurray’s displacement osteotomy, Dickson’s high geometric osteotomy, Putti’s osteotomy, Pauwel’s Y-osteotomy, malunited slipped capital femoral epiphysis, Dunn’s osteotomy, osteonecrosis of femoral head and Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. Osteoarthritis of the hip and pelvic osteotomies are also discussed in this chapter. Five well-labeled and well-colored figures are also provided in this chapter.
