Abstract

This chapter divided into two parts first parts is an examination of the ankle joint and second part is on radiological evaluation of the foot and ankle. The ankle joint forms an important interface facilitating absorption of forces during loading; adaptation to uneven surfaces and aids in propulsion, all forming important components of ambulation. Stress test and anteroposterior stress test are two tests for stability of the ankle joint. Linear, circumferential measurement, auscultation and power are the different measurements of ankle joint. Routine investigations, radiology and arthroscopy are the investigations for ankle pathology. Radiographic evaluation of the foot and ankle can provide the clinician with much information about structural abnormalities as well as local and systemic disorders affecting the peripheral distal extremity. Routine views of the foot, routine views of the ankle, standing full weightbearing views, stress views: orthopedic aspects, eversion stress view, anterior transpositional stress view, flexion stress view, parameters measurable on the anteroposterior view, parameters measurable on the lateral, parameters measurable on the lateral view and xeroradiography are the different technique of radiographic examination. Four tables and 18 figures are also provided in this chapter.
