Abstract

Hallux abductovalgus deformity (HAV) deformity plagues millions across the world as one of the most common deformities affecting the foot and ankle. A keen awareness of the causes contributing to HAV is an important factor in obtaining a successful surgical outcome. Conservative treatment and surgical treatment are the treatment options of hallux valgus. One of the most dreaded and drastic complications of bunion surgery is the development of hallux varus. This usually develops from iatrogenic causes and can have a devastating impact on function and quality of life. The main focus of this chapter is on soft tissue releases, hallux procedures, chevron metatarsal procedures, Mau, crescentic, Lapidus, metatarsophalangeal (MTP) arthroplasty, MTP arthrodesis and postoperative protocol. 36 well-colored figures are also presented in this chapter.
