Abstract

This chapter focuses on the upper extremity prostheses. Prosthetic components for upper extremity have improved dramatically over years with considerable improvement in socket fit and hand function. Body powered components, terminal devices, and harnessing and controls for body-powered devices are the different prosthetic components of upper extremity prostheses. Prehension mechanism and prehension force are the components of externally powered systems. Control of limb prostheses, partial hand amputations, wrist disarticulation and transradial amputations, and elbow disarticulation and transhumeral amputations are also discussed in this chapter. A well-illustrated flowchart on terminal devices is also presented in this chapter.
