Abstract

This chapter aims to equip with images of capillary malformation, infantile hemangioma, lymphangioma, angiokeratoma, verrucous hemangioma, pyogenic granuloma, glomus tumor, Kaposi’s sarcoma, bacillary angiomatosis, skin tag, dermatofibroma, piloleiomyomas, nevus lipomatosus, etc. Lymphangiectasia does not show subcutaneous involvement as against lymphangioma circumscriptum. Angiokeratomas in Fabry disease show vacuolation of smooth muscle in the blood vessels and in the arrectores pilorum. Organisms are not seen in pyogenic granuloma and neutrophils are restricted to the surface of the ulcer as opposed to bacillary angiomatosis. Kaposi’s sarcoma shows spindle cells and slit-like vessels whereas bacillary angiomatosis demonstrates epithelioid endothelial cells, neutrophils and organisms. Kaposi’s sarcoma, glomus tumor and, pyogenic granuloma have different histologic presentations. HHV 8 DNA detection by marker studies is important for diagnosis of Kaposi’s sarcoma.
