Abstract

The Government of India has launched various nutritional programs to benefit mothers and children and to tackle major problems of malnutrition prevailing in India. Lack of nutrients will lead to decrease in work output, physical intolerance and increase in mortality and morbidity particularly among the pregnant women, lactating mothers and children up to 5 years forming the vulnerable group of the population. This chapter covers the national programs related to nutrition, integrated child development services, mid-day meal program, national nutritional anemia program, special nutrition program, national goiter control program, national program for prophylaxis against blindness due to vitamin a deficiency, Balwadi nutrition program, applied nutrition program, world food program, and national and international agencies.
