Abstract

This chapter has been developed to assist in the DDx of patients who present with respiratory symptoms and chest X-ray abnormalities. Eight common chest X-ray patterns i.e. unilateral focal segmental/lobar infiltrate without effusion, unilateral focal segmental/lobar infiltrate with effusion, unilateral ill-defined infiltrates without effusion, unilateral ill-defined infiltrates with effusion, bilateral infiltrates without effusion, bilateral infiltrates with effusion, cavitary infiltrates (thick-walled), and cavitary infiltrates (thin-walled) are provided throughout this chapter. Infectious and noninfectious etiologies are followed by clinical features useful in the DDx and help guide empiric therapy.
