Acute pancreatitis is a syndrome of acute inflammation of the exocrine pancreas gland initiated by an acute injury to the parenchyma of the pancreas. Interstitial edematous acute pancreatitis is characterized by acute inflammation of the pancreatic parenchyma and peripancreatic tissues, but without tissue necrosis.
