Abstract

Liver has dual blood supply. The portal vein provides two thirds of blood flow to the liver. The hepatic artery supplies the rest. Three hepatic veins (right, middle and left) drain the liver into the inferior vena cava. When portal vein blood flow increases, hepatic artery flow decreases and vice versa, and this is called as hepatic arterial buffer response. Vascular liver diseases occur at mainly two levels such as inflow vascular pathology and outflow vascular pathology. There are mainly two types of inflow vascular pathology such as intrahepatic and extrahepatic portal vein obstruction (EHPVO). In hepatic venous outflow tract obstruction (HVOTO)—three level of obstruction can occur such as veno-occlusive disease (VOD), Budd-chiari syndrome (BCS), and venous obstruction at level of heart.
