Abstract

This chapter describes simple approach to liver biopsy interpretation. Interpretation of biopsy depends upon the type of liver biopsy. Whether it is a parenchymal core or transjugular liver biopsy (TJLB) or wedge biopsy will alter the final interpretation. Parenchymal biopsies are best for analysis of medical or surgical pathologies. TJL biopsies are fragmented and should be carefully interpreted. Wedge biopsies often contain subcapsular tissues and overestimate the fibrosis, so the deeper areas should be interpreted for fibrosis and ongoing pathology. This chapter covers the categorizing the biopsy and clues to different pathologies.
