Abstract

The objective of this chapter is to introduce the acute hepatitis. Clinically define as illness with a discrete onset of fever, headache, anorexia, malaise, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain with either jaundice or elevated serum aminotransferase (alanine aminotransferase or aspartate aminotransferase) levels. This chapter covers the epidemiology and etiology, clinical course, laboratory investigations, liver biopsy, histopathology, patterns of severe acute hepatitis, evolution of acute hepatitis, histopathological differential diagnosis, etiology specific histopathological changes HAV, and liver biopsy sign out.
